ELECTION INFO:  A bit of a delay on getting an example of the ballot for Kennesaw, will post it when it is available.

"I apologize for the delay.  It isn’t that the site isn’t working, but that the Sample Ballots are not quite ready.  We now have several unexpected Special Elections.  Even though they do not affect the Kennesaw area, they changed our preparation schedule.  We are now planning to have Sample Ballots ready tomorrow, October 3.  I will email you the Kennesaw one as soon as I have it.  Thanks!

JIMMY DICKENS - Running for City Council - WHY?
Sorry, I just don't see why he ever got in office in the first place.

He is opposed by a good candidate in Jim Sebastian who is already on the Council, so why is Dickens even a contender for re-election? He never did anything during his current term to merit consideration for another term.

He has a very checkered past with bad check charges in NC and 5 Felony convictions in Cobb County.

KENNESAW 2017 ELECTION
9/24/17 MDJ
While one Kennesaw City Council incumbent did not pursue re-election, two others will face one another for the same council seat.

Current Post 5 Councilman Jim Sebastian entered the race not for re-election to his seat, but rather for the Post 4 position held by Councilman Jimmy Dickens. Also seeking the Post 4 seat is Chris Henderson, a senior research engineer for Georgia Tech Research Institute, according to his campaign website.

Sebastian in July told the MDJ that he would not seek re-election, saying he did not “want to be associated with those only interested in self-promoting their personal/financial interests and unethical or illegal actions,” though declined to provide specifics.

Seeking Sebastian’s seat is David Blinkhorn, a buyer for Kennesaw State University, and Bobby Copeland, who has qualified as an official write-in candidate.

Kennesaw will see another three-way race on the Nov. 7 ballot, with Pat Ferris, Antonio “Tony” Jones and Jeffrey Oparnica seeking the seat occupied by Councilman Nimesh Patel, who is not seeking re-election.

Jones previously described himself as a “serial entrepreneur” who owns a landscaping business and a logistics business and consults with other small business owners on website design. Qualifying information listed Ferris’ occupation as a manager, with Oparnica listed as a brewer.

The city’s two three-way races will be settled in the Nov. 7 election. Kennesaw differs from the other cities with elections this year as it does not have a runoff — candidates only have to earn a plurality of the votes to win office.  Extract from:

Kennesaw's trash fee increase won’t hit prepaid residents at first
Beginning in October and reflected on the November bill, sanitation fees for residents will increase from $19 to $22 per month.
Gina Auld, finance director for Kennesaw, said that residents who have already paid for sanitation services through the end of 2017 will “get a pass on the sanitation fee increase for the remaining term of their prepayment.”
The MDJ previously reported that the fee would increase by $3, but incorrectly reported the total fee amount.
Residents will also see a new $3 per month streetlight fee on their sanitation bills beginning in January. City officials say this fee will support a “quality of life” initiative and will be used to hire more code enforcement officers and purchase equipment needed to address code violations, such as vacant structures, overgrown grass and illegally parked vehicles.

THE END OF PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL
Colin Kaepernick may end up being known as the person who ended professional football.
The sport was already on a downhill slide with the revelation that brain injuries were killing off players.  It is now known  that this was well known to owners who did nothing about it and civil suits will be in litigation for many years.
Parents no longer want their children playing football and steer them to safer sports.
Along comes Colin Kaepernick with his 'taking the knee' during the national anthem, then he backtracks as he found himself un-employable, but to late, as this sort of protest caught on with other NFL players who began 'protesting' even if many of them had no idea what they were protesting about.
With the national dissatisfaction about such antics growing and with the President's statements on this ramping up the issue as 'anti-Trump' elements join the fray, professional football continues its downward slide to oblivion.
The end of this sport as a major national pastime is coming and investments in billion dollar stadiums now seem like serious mistakes.  It may take 10 years, but eventually football will be down there with the viewer ship of professional golf.
The 'average' yearly pay for professional football players is $2,000,000, 70% are Black and the majority of them have no other skills.
Mr. Kaepernick will not only be known for helping to end professional football but also for adding to the unemployment statistics for Black males.

Subj: More Fees for Trash and Stormwater -

Kennesaw should never have gone private with garbage and laid off city workers.

I always wondered who got paid off for that little maneuver. It smelled then and even now, years later it still reeks to someone getting paid off.

In Canton I pay $10.50 monthly for garbage and $2.25 for stormwater, billed by City of Canton. They use the firm Waste Management firm for garbage. They take anything, you put out a dead body or two and they would take them no questions asked.

Kennesaw residents are getting totally screwed by the mayor and council.
